The best tv shows you're not watching
This morning, Chris talked about an article she read about the best tv shows you're not watching. These are the shows that don't have the most viewers, but should. (You can check out the list at http://www.wpst.com/thingsyouheard). Anyway, I came up with a list of some of my favorite shows that I think you should be watching. Let me know what you think.
>Greek on ABC Family: This show, in it's third season (and just renewed for a fourth), revolves around the members of sororities and fraternities at a fictional midwest college, but don't think that this is "Animal House" (which I love in it's own right). This is a very smart comedy. In fact, the writing has been compared to The Gilmore Girls. You can catch previous episodes on DVD or on the web.
>My Boys on TBS: The sitcom won't return until the fall, but that makes this the perfect time to catch up on the episodes you may have missed. The show is basically "Friends," but with a twist. The main character is a female sportswriter that hangs out with a bunch of guy friends. She likes sports, hangs out at the bar, plays poker, etc., but she's hot. (The perfect combination, right guys). This is another really well-written comedy and I think it appeals to both men and women.
>The Amazing Race on CBS: I know it's been on for awhile and that a good number of people watch it, but I'm still surprised that it doesn't have an even bigger audience. It regularly wins the Emmy for Best Reality Show and even though it's been around for several years, it really doesn't get old. If you've never seen the show, the basic premise is that teams of two race around the world for a chance to win $1 million. The teams usually have some type of twist to them (long-distance daters, divorced couple, grandfather and grandson, etc.), which causes lots of drama along the way. My only complaint with the show is that it isn't shot in HD. Other than that, it really is a great hour of television.
Some of my other picks would be Gossip Girl (if you think you're too old for this show, you're wrong), Parks & Recreation with Amy Poehler (if you like The Office, you definitely should be watching this show), and Eastbound & Down (which will be returning soon for a second season on HBO).
Now it's your turn. Let me know what shows I should be watching. Respond below or email me at dave@wpst.com.

A must see show is: Celebrity rehab with Dr. Drew
ReplyDeleteMy Boys, def! very easy to watch, and despite how "slow" it seems at first, LOTS of funny moments.
ReplyDeleteAlso CASTLE! Totally in the vein of those witty mystery dramedies of the 80's with the will-they-or-won't-they couples a la Moonlighting, Remington Steele, Scarecrow & Mrs. King (wow totally dating myself here)
Leverage on TNT is good, if you love the stuff with con men and grifters, except it's a total ripoff of BBC's Hustle, but it's still decent.
And my new thing is shows where the main character is narrating: Burn Notice (USA) - the narration kinda reminds me of MacGyver, esp when he's using chewing gum & bobbie pins to rig up a bomb, also all the lush Miami scenery is easy on the eyes; Secret Diary of a CallGirl (Showtime), the funny asides she has with the camera are worth it ; and Dexter (also SHO), except I know this show doesn't need an audience... but it's also got the not-too-shabby Miami backdrop.
Whew... I just blew my cover, didn't I? LOL As if you didn't know I watched this much TV...
The Amazing Race is hands down my favorite show on t.v. The only time I don't enjoy watching it as much (which, unfortunately, is happening this season) is when there are people on there who already have money-like the current season, which features the winner of Big Brother. I would rather see regular, everyday (i.e., not wealthy) people win.
ReplyDeleteI think THE BEST SHOW is "The Middle". My fiance and I laugh out loud every single episode and I never hear anyone else talking about it. It's on Wednesday nights on ABC at 8:30 p.m. I wish more people would check it out, it's awesome! :)
