To watch or not to watch...

People who know me know that there are few things in the world that I care about more than my two dogs (my boy Baxter is pictured), so when I read about a new movie that just came out on DVD called Hachi, A Dog's Tale I was intrigued. The movie, which stars Richard Gere, is a story about a professor who adopts a lost puppy, Hachi. Every night, Hachi sits at the train station waiting for his master to come home from work. And then one day, his master doesn't come home and Hachi just sits there and waits for him.

Entertainment Weekly gave the movie an A-, but said it is a "three hankie gem." So my question is, should I watch this movie? Before you answer, let me explain a few more things.

-My wife cried just watching the trailer. (You can check it out below, if you'd like).

-I have never...and will probably never watch Marley & Me.

-I almost cried when Jack Black's character in Anchor Man punted Ron Burgundy's dog off a bridge. (By the way, Ron's dog was named Baxter too. Just a coincidence, but even so, I would have been proud to name my dog after Ron's).

So should I watch Hachi or should I stick with things like Beethoven, Turner & Hooch, Dr. Doolittle and reruns of Scooby Doo? Post your comments below or email me at dave@wpst.com.

  2. i say don't watch. and i don't even have pets. the ten minutes i saw of marley i thought to myself, "thank god i don't have a dog bc this would really mess me up in the head".

look at this way, pretend it's got a surprise twist ending and that i'm about to ruin it for you: the dog sees dead people. there, don't you feel better?

  3. I think you should watch it if you are a true pet lover. Everyone deserves a good cry. I watched Marley and Me and shortly after had to take my beloved Samantha to be put to sleep. Since everything happens for a reason, shortly after I adopted Lucy Liu who had been taken to the shelter twice. There had to be happy moments in the movie, but for me I'll cry at anything. Even Hotel for Dogs.
