If you've been watching American Idol, you may be wondering what song is playing during the "goodbye" videos. The song is called Leave Right Now by Will Young. Before there was American Idol, there was Pop Idol, England's version of the show and Will Young was the very first Pop Idol. Leave Right Now is one of four number one songs that Will has had in the UK, but that success never translated to America.There were actually only two seasons of Pop Idol and neither winner had success in the US. And Simon Cowell's X Factor, which replaced Pop Idol, has only produced one artist who has achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic. That artist is Leona Lewis. (Two more X Factor acts, JLS and Alexandra Burke will take a stab at success in the US later this year).

Simon Cowell was not involved with Will at all (luckily) so he was never paraded or pushed in the US like Simon's subsequent artists have been.
ReplyDeleteWill has quietly got on with his career, working hard and writing music. His forte lies in his live shows which are usually sell outs as they are always brilliant vocally and for entertainmnet.
I hope if you do get to see him then his fantastic personality and unique delivery of a song can be witnessed.
